I am have just been made redundant. What do you recommend I do?

December 17, 2025

Redundancy can be a difficult moment, but also a real opportunity to reset, reflect, and make strategic choices. Here’s what we recommend, especially for someone in the Hospitality or Real Estate space:

1. Take Stock & But Don’t Panic
Allow yourself a brief window to process the change. Redundancy often isn’t about performance; it’s about business shifts, funding cycles, or leadership restructuring.

2. Reframe Your Narrative
Update your CV and LinkedIn, but don’t just list roles but show outcomes. Tell the story and explain. What were you brought in to do? What did you achieve? How did the business change under your leadership?

3. Tap Into Your Network; Quietly and Strategically
Reach out to:
▪️ Former colleagues and peers
▪️ Mentors or advisors
▪️ Trusted headhunters in your sector (like us)

You don’t need to broadcast the redundancy. Instead, say you’re open to new opportunities aligned with your skillset and goals.

4. Position Yourself With Purpose
Consider:
▪️ What kind of business or asset class excites you?
▪️ Do you want a similar role-or a pivot?
▪️ Would you consider relocation (GCC, US, UK, EMEA) or remote advisory roles?

Now’s the time to align your next move with where you want to be in 5–10 years.

5. Work With a Specialist Search Partner
Executive Search isn’t just for employers, it can be your best ally as a candidate. A good headhunter knows which roles aren’t public, what firms are planning 6–12 months out, and how to position your story powerfully.

6. Invest in Your Visibility
▪️ Speak on panels or at industry events
▪️ Publish thoughtful insights (e.g. LinkedIn articles or short posts)
▪️ Join industry working groups or NED networks

It keeps you top-of-mind and reinforces your expertise.

7. Consider Interim or Advisory Roles
They keep you engaged, open doors, and can lead to full-time offers. The Hospitality & Real Estate world, especially in emerging markets, values practical experience over titles.
