Casestudy – Senior Quantity Surveyor – Consultancy, UK

The Company

Our Client is an independent property and construction consultancy recognised for its commercially focused, director-led approach. Headquartered in Birmingham with a growing presence in Bristol, the firm provides quantity surveying, project management, and building consultancy services across sectors including commercial, residential, and leisure.

With circa 70 employees, they maintain a supportive, family-run culture that encourages progression and continued professional growth as the business expands across the South West.

The Challenge

Our Client was looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the continued growth of their Bristol office. The role required someone who could balance hands-on delivery with leadership responsibilities; taking ownership of major commercial projects while mentoring junior team members and driving regional expansion.

Finding the right candidate meant identifying someone with strong technical expertise, client-facing experience, and the adaptability to thrive within a growing consultancy environment. The position was of strategic importance and needed to be filled efficiently to maintain delivery continuity.

Our Solution

As a retained partner, we worked closely with our Client to gain a deep understanding of their business structure, project portfolio, and long-term growth objectives for the Bristol office.

We developed a targeted search strategy focused on senior-level Quantity Surveyors within the UK who demonstrated a blend of commercial acumen, team leadership, and hands-on project delivery experience. Each candidate was assessed not only for their technical capabilities but also for their alignment with our Client’s collaborative culture and client-first approach.

Identifying the Candidate

Through a combination of direct outreach and network engagement, we identified a strong shortlist of qualified professionals with experience across commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments.

Each shortlisted candidate went through an in-depth conversation with Richmond Capital to assess their background, motivations, and fit for the role. From there, four candidates were formally presented to our Client, each matching the criteria across project exposure, leadership capability, and technical knowledge.

Bringing the Right People Together

Following Richmond Capital’s shortlist, our Client conducted a structured interview process, including both virtual and in-person stages. By ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout, we supported both parties through every stage, from interview preparation to offer negotiation, ensuring a smooth and transparent hiring process.

The result was a successful appointment of a high-calibre Senior Quantity Surveyor who met the firm’s technical requirements and cultural expectations, helping reinforce the Bristol office’s continued growth trajectory.
