What should we look for in C-suite hires?

Hiring for the C-suite is no longer all about industry expertise and being financial savvy. We would recommend considering your hires against the following competencies:

  • Relevant Business Acumen & Problem Solving skills – The hire will also need to have the ability to make tough decisions in the midst of uncertainty and think outside of the box to ensure the company adapts to inevitable market changes
  • Effective Communication and People skills – Workforce diversity is increasing as is greater public scrutiny and this demands those who can link the business internally and manage stakeholders effectively and understand different concerns.
  • Leadership – This hire will need to inspire the company, inject energy and change where needed, and make and honour commitments. They will need to be charismatic, act with humility and drive the company to improved performance through hiring and developing their team.
  • Resilience, and the ability to learn from failure. It’s much easier to be strong when times are good. However Leaders you hire should be those who maintain strength during even the most severe adversity.
  • Organizational Focus & Strategic thinking – This person will need to put the business first and have their finger on the pulse to be ahead of the curve.
