Whilst you might want to run through the implications with an employment lawyer, for most roles we find that 2 months can be very beneficial.
- 1 month is a bit on the shorter side when looking to backfill the role.
- 2 months is usually long enough to enable you to get a recruitment process underway and someone else in or working their notice, ensure they tie up loose ends and have them leave on a high note.
- 3 months notice can mean the days can drag on and the employee can become less motivated and engaged in the role if not kept busy. From a practical perspective you really want to be running their workload down and doing a handover during this time. For roles that are harder to backfill, you might want to consider this further though and keep to 3 months if the benefits outweigh the risks.
