Getting your first role in the UK can be tough as many companies want UK experience. Our top tips are:
- If you can transfer to the UK through your current employer, we would recommend looking into this.
- Connect with Recruiters in the space ahead of your move and again when you land. They will know off the market opportunities
- Use your antipodean network to see if anyone knows of a great opportunity
- Join UK Property networks when you arrive
- Apply to companies of interest directly through roles advertised and directly via email. They might be more open to taking a risk on you if they don’t have to pay recruiter fees
- It’s like you will need to take a paycut coming from Australia as the pay is definitely lower, plus you will need someone to take a shine to you without UK experience so you want to make hiring you commercially attractive to a company
- It’s like you will find it easier to join a Consultancy as they hire more often than developers. They are more likely to be able to train you on UK methodologies through their larger teams. Further competition for roles on the developer side can be fierce
- Be open minded and resilient
