I am a female working for a Real Estate Developer in the UK. How can I find a mentor in the Real Estate Sector?

The right mentor can be a powerful tool for professional growth and can lead to promotion, better work and life balance and even new job opportunities.

It is crucial to find an individual you can relate to, respect and look up to, who will share how they accomplished their goals, and will openly offer you feedback and advice. They can teach you areas where you lack expertise or experience and help you push into new sectors. You can also learn from their experiences and they can motivate you to completing your own goals and step out your comfort zone.

The best ways to find such a mentor can be:

  • Referrals and recommendations.
  • Your own network and former colleagues.
  • Property Networks and Networking Events.
  • Approaching those you admire on Social Media and Linkedin.
  • Consider official mentoring Schemes. There are tried and tested schemes run by Women in Property, CrewUK, BPF and the Circle Partnership.

Obviously it would be best to build rapport with those you are wanting to mentor you first, rather then jumping straight in with a request. It can be beneficial to have more than 1 mentor, and have them develop you in different ways.
